‘Open Spaces’ was created over the course of ten days spent camping in the Florida Everglades. I was inspired by the flat, swampy landscape so different from my native rolling hills of Connecticut. Immediately I was enamored by the color palette. The soft blues, greens and pinks almost seemed curated, like washes of watercolor bleeding together on sun bleached cotton. The landscape, while teeming with various wildlife, still held an aching stillness. I attempted to highlight these open spaces in a way that the viewer could imagine their own isolation and sense of detachment.
